Sights on Brown Road
The district where Brown Road passes through used to be called Ayer Rajah, after the Ayer Rajah Estate, which belonged to the Browns and Scotts, whose names remain on the roads in the area. The estate itself was named after the bay, Teluk Ayer Rajah, now undergoing various stages of land reclamation. The main road in that neighbourhood is Ayer Rajah Road, now known as Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Brown Road was named after David Brown, the largest landowner in Penang, who was also remembered with the Brown Memorialand Padang Brown.
